Peregrine Falcon
Peregrine Falcon
(Price on request)
The nest box must meet special requirements and be very solid, so that it will last for many years. Because the box is hanging at a great height and is difficult to reach, it must be hung properly in one go. In addition, the box is larger than a kestrel box and equipped with a metal landing grid, with which young peregrine falcons can practice flying. At this height it is crucial that they can fly well when they leave the nest to prevent them from falling down.
A layer of gravel is placed in the box in which the parents make a nesting hole in which the eggs lie somewhat stable. A lot of stock prey is also placed in the box. We can provide the box with an extension for placing a camera.
About the peregrine falcon
About the peregrine falcon
The peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on earth, reaches a speed of over 300 km per hour and can be admired in many places in the Netherlands. The male measures approx. 46 cm and the female approx. 54 cm. The wingspan is 85 cm for the male and 115 cm for the female.
It is estimated that there are more than 200 breeding pairs in the Netherlands. Not only in nature reserves, but also a large part breeds in urban areas these days. The preference is mainly for nest boxes on or on high buildings (at least 50 meters high). For peregrine falcons that breed in urban areas, the food consists mainly of pigeons. The peregrine falcons that breed outside the city catch ducks, waders and starlings in addition to pigeons.

To hang
Hanging: there are usually 3 options:
Usually, 2 brackets are placed on a facade on which the cabinet is then mounted. Sometimes installation can be done using a ladder, otherwise a cherry picker/crane is necessary.
It is also possible that there is a standing railing around the roof to which the box can be attached using specially made brackets (preferably stainless steel). This is often the easiest way because it can be realized from the roof, without ladders/elevating platforms. The opening of the box looks out over the fields or city so that there is a free flight path for the peregrine falcons.
If there is no railing, or if it cannot be used due to safety regulations, we can supply and assemble a special frame on which the cabinet can be placed.
This frame is made of iron and custom welded and can be flexibly placed on the roof. Given the height and possible weather influences, this system is very solid and easy to assemble on any roof. Weighting with special tiles is a condition so that wind/storm has no influence on the box.
